Resist
Title: OPTIC 2 Size: 14x17 inches framed Medium: Pen and Ink on Paper Description: Inspired by the extensive network of fiber optic cables on the Earth's ocean floors. Price: $900 Title: RESIST Size: 6x6 inches Medium: Braille on Polymer Description: Lady Justice is a symbol of impartiality in our judicial system. Standing stoically with a scale and sword, she is blindfolded representing that power and money has no influence. A standard braille sign becomes repurposed by altering its function. The art questions how special interests have weakened democracy. Price: $300 Title: REEF 2 Size: 13.5x16x1 inches Medium: CAB Formed Plastic Description: Changing ocean temperatures, pollution, sunlight overexposure, and extreme low tides causes coral bleaching. Algae are a coral’s main food source and stressed environments cause its release turning the tissues to turn white. Inspired by the global bleaching epidemic, white-formed plastic has been repurposed into a pattern mimicking the ecosystem. Plastic pollution continues to be a key-contributing factor to the decline of coral reefs. Price: $650

Fight Like a Girl
Following the Women's March, I awoke with a vision of graffiti scrawled across a portrait. The vision translated into a body of reworked portraits featuring slogans from recent political events, historic speeches, and quotations. Reworking these portraits, I give myself and my subjects a voice. I have found something liberating about writing over the portraits. They move from the singular to the universal. The work is ultimately about standing up for issues that matter. It's about speaking on behalf of those who cannot speak or are at risk of being silenced.

Tower to Nowhere
While out with a friend on a rural homestead we saw from the side of the road, I spotted a rusty tower in the middle of some brush. While I had intended to shoot the falling down barn and house, I was attracted to how the noon sun was hitting this tower and how the rivets looked different at every angle. This series began my love for Black & White photography and capturing architectural details in places that have been long forgotten.

Rebecca Laws
Rebecca Laws:photographer
These pieces are a compression of 100 images, each presented at 1% opacity. The images are the first 100 results that appeared when I did a Google search of the respective titles- Rebecca Laws photographer, and Rebecca Laws artist. These developed from my desire to reconcile what in my mind were two conflicting designations - that of an artist, and that of a photographer. By using a set parameter and taking a survey of images, I felt as though I was setting a definition for the terms, and by presenting every image at the same time, created a visual comparison for two abstract concepts.

We are All Brothers and Sisters (1/10)
The three pieces I am submitting are parts of the “California Dreaming” series. “A Fantastical Dream” To be displayed with this piece: “The seen, the unseen. What is here, what is there. What is here, what was here, and what will be here. My dream, your dream, and our dreams.“ “We are ALL Brothers and Sisters” emphasizes the inter-connectioness of human beings. In my view, the problems in the world are mainly caused by over emphasis of “individualism”, even for problems related to environment. Interestingly, this type of “individualism” not only caused all kinds of social and environmental problems, it also diminished individuals in the end, as any individual existing alone is an empty shell. We can only live a fulfilled life if we live connected with others. “Hope” also emphasis that there could only be hope for everyone if people’s ideas coincide with each other. The price is for one of the 10 limited edition print, with frame.

Mama-O-Lith
My work begins as an exploration of ideas and images in a sketchbook. The evolution of these sketches is much like the process of pulling a loose thread - the outcome of which may generate a range of discoveries and reactions. From the sketchbook the work is evaluated and revised to ascertain which images will be reworked into larger drawings and/or paintings.

El Nino
‘El Nino’ was painted on September 2015, with the anticipation of a violent storm coming towards California that was hoped to end the long lasting California drought. Meanwhile, forecast news from the media, were surely predicting strong showers for the fall and winter. In fact, nothing ended up happening that year, and in 2016. The severe California drought continued until the beginning of 2017 when we started to receive heavy rain throughout California. Now, the painting can have its true meaning about the apprehension of a violent storm where everything looks grayish outside even in colorful California. Acrylic and ink on wood

Yes, But Does It Float
Bowers stages such fascinating dramas, loaded with subtle political implications that draw me in but leave me on edge like real impending situations do, potential disasters. And just when I'm getting scared I see the shadow of a house on the sky, thus rendered a stage back-drop, and I back up to be reminded, oh yes, this framing is the proscenium of a theater or some other window to a pictured artifice, so now I'm safe enough to reflect on what this may portend.
